(Insert eye rolls) for that corny, yet neccesary quote from my favorite film franchise (Star Wars, if you didn't know). In all seriousness, welcome and thanks for at least checking out my introduction post.
For those who don't know me, let me introduce myself. I go by JG in most circles which is short for my first name, John-Gregory. I'm twenty-five years old, living in the moody weather city of Pittsburgh, PA. I currently work in the public sector and am slowly working towards a degree in journalism and film study. I enjoy a little this and that from social gatherings, traveling, sport events, going to theater, and spending quality time with my family especially my brother.
I am a huge fan of film and love watching, analyzing, and critiquing movies probably more than I should. This passion started with my English teacher teaching a film analysis elective for two years. I watched so many different films, studying and discussing eveything from the technical work behind the camera to the plot and characterization. This slowly would begin my passion for film, especially going to a theater and sharing the experience. It's the modernized version of people going to see plays, tears and laughter are shared even amongst strangers.
My favorite film franchise is Star Wars and I love everything about it including the expanded universe with the books, shows, comics and more. But I've come to enjoy many other films like the classic off-beat film Monty Python and The Holy Grail to the warmth inducing The Sound of Music. This year has also brought us new fantastic films like: The Irishman, Avengers: Endgame, 1917, Booksmart, and many more.
We are very fortunate that the movie going experience has not been lost and is probably back to growing. In my opinion, there is nothing that beats that experience, especially on opening night. I also hope to share that experience with you with my blog, Review Street. It's a place where you can to see my thoughts and reviews of current and upcoming films, some reviews of the past, the occasional think piece on news or a topic, and much more. If any of that interests you or if you think you know someone who would, bookmark the site and follow us on social media for updates.
When it comes to my reviews, I want to look at a film as whole: technical, story, and enjoyment. Techical is everything behind the camera including but not excluding cinematography, directing, production, etc as well as the acting. The story, focusing on the plot, characters, theme, structure, Finally, did I enjoy the film or did it leave me never wanting to see it again. Each of the categories will have a scale of ten, then all three added, and the average given the final score from one-ten.
I am very excited to finally start this journey with you all. This week, I will release my The Irishman review and in the coming weeks My Top 10 of 2019 and My Top of the Decade. Follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Until next time, may the force be with you.
